Things to Do Before a Typhoon
5 to 3 Days Before: Collect Information and Prepare
- Check Typhoon Updates
Monitor the news and weather forecasts regularly. Sharing information with family, friends, and coworkers is also important. - Prepare Emergency Supplies
When a typhoon comes, ships may be canceled, and food or deliveries may not arrive. Prepare items such as:- Drinking water
- Canned food or preserved food
- Portable gas stove (in case of power outages)

2 to 1 Days Before: Power Outage and Flood Countermeasures
- Power Outage Preparation
- Fully charge your mobile phone
- Prepare flashlights in case of blackout
- If you have a car, fill the tank with gas (you can charge devices via inverter or USB)
- Freeze water in PET bottles to use for cooling during blackout; melted water can be used as drinking water
- Flood Countermeasures
- Clean the drains to ensure smooth water flow
- Strong Wind Countermeasures
- Secure outdoor objects with rope or bring them indoors
- If you have shutters, close them tightly to protect from wind and rain

On the Day of Typhoon: Do Not Go Outside

Monitor updates from the Japan Meteorological Agency. If there is a power outage and TV or the internet cannot be used, town disaster radios will still provide updates. Don’t forget to turn them on.
